A group of animals engage in a task or activity. After a while, they are replaced by a similar group that completes the task.

Relay is a durational performative installation composed of different contributions by 14 artists whose work sustains live and which have elements that make-happen.

Relay consists of a curatorial structure where artists contribute work that reacts to a work from another artist. By association, each artist provides something to transmit to the next artist, in a continuing dialogue. Performance, installation, video and live streaming works take part within the theater space.

Relay is an approach to making a collective exhibition. The works, planned or improvised, pass on the concept that is transformed. A structure for time-based work is provided, reflecting on the role of the mediator and the artist, while dealing with decision-making and responsibilities. Leif Holmstrand (SE) (1972) is a writer, musician and artist with a malicious queer approach to language and humanity. Monster Body and monsters identity runs through masculine and feminine coded gear / images / clothing and sets it to the ambient perceptive organs. The poles ceases to be poles in specific circumstances, or just other circumstances. Psychosis experience goes hand in hand with portrayed the dreams of multi transsexual bodies and beings. He propagates to total installations, apparent scenography, sculpture individual cells, images, photographs, audio, video and text should be merged. Sindri Leifsson (IS) b. 1988, Reykjavik, Iceland, is between two situations. As a performer he takes on the role of a static sculpture as a tool of engagement, or rather a confused observer trying to understand the flow of the current situation that feeds him information. Somewhat like the little black dots and lines on an otherwise beautifully white and round parsnip. Looking for a stability is looking for the centre. There are some guidelines but don’t be fooled by the goldsmith. Be fooled by the goldsmith.

João Evangelista (Lisbon 1978) creates time-based performance art, through notions of choreography and computer science.

Zero Hour Bureau is a durational performance that loops every 15 minutes. During this time, one member of the audience is offered a consultation service of a flight path through the choreographic notation of breaking points.

Oscar Lara (b. 1977) Peruvian/Swedish based artist. His practice explores subjects such as social and ethnic diversity, immigration and integration and depredation/trafficking of cultural heritage. His latest projects have involved sculpture installations, video‐documentaries, performance and social development projects.

Originally conceived in East London, now located in Stockholm, Autoreply Music has climbed up the ranks, gaining respect from the most influential members of today’s deep and minimal techno community. A policy of releasing music from new or up and coming producers alongside established artists has been a key feature in the label’s success, with appearances from Claro Intelecto, Baby Ford, Jerome Sydenham, Dan Curtin, Agaric, Ed Davenport and Mark Henning to name just a few.

OCH has been an active figure in the UK music scene since the late 1990’s – some will remember him as the lively character working for Juno Records or his work as a DJ/Studio equipment journalist. Globally he is recognized as the first of a new generation of producers to grace London’s institutional Trelik and PAL SL imprints – receiving critical acclaim for his “Whalesong EP” which hit Groove Magazine Germany’s No1 Spot. As a remix artist OCH has graced labels such as Paris’ Bass Culture, Hold Youth, Minimood Extra plus a limited edition vinyl rework of Marc Romboy and Ken Ishii’s “Taiyo” on Dusseldorf’s Systematic label.

Born in Germany but raised in the US, Spain and UK, Thomas Melchior started making his name around the dawn of the ’90s, when his soulful early work as Ohm caught on and helped seed the ground for the trip-hop movement. After that came tracks under the names Vulva and Yoni for Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label (among others) and eventually a collaborative streak with Baby Ford as Soul Capsule that would directly inform the kind of forceful minimal grooves that Melchior favors now. His recent work has found homes on labels like Perlon, [a:rpia:r], Playhouse and his own Aspect Music and he continues to travel extensively as one of the circuits most in-demand DJ / live acts.

Something big is coming to Malmoe this spring. It’s the Swedish Poetry Slam Nationals! Four days of poetry, sweat and tears when we gather 50 of Swedens best spoken word artists in Malmoe to fight for fame, glory, and the title of Swedish Poetry Slam Champion 2013!

Poets from Norrland to Skåne will travel here to not only compete as teams, but also as individual poets. For the adventurous ones there will also be the opportunity to compete in competitions such as improetry, speed slam and schlager slam!

Between the bouts you’ll be able to see the very best of Malmoe’s performance art groups. Such as The Hellfire Domain of Metaphor Wrestlers and Duktiga Tjejer Gör Dålig Konst (Good Girls Do Bad Art), and others! We’ve also got a special treat for the final evening with U.S Slam poets Jamila Woods and Robbie Q. Telfer performing!

Between April 22–29 Inkonst will host the BaNd:expanded atelier with 15 performing arts professionals from the baltic-nordic region. The atelier is run by performance theorists and makers Mårten Spångberg and Bojana Cvejić and will explore the ‘curatorial turn’ in performing arts and encourage artists to become the curators. Next to seminars and discussions around the topic the intention is to create during the workshop a collaborative ”groupshow”, a presentation or performance that intend to follow or use as dramaturgical leit-motif the script of a generic “groupshow”, i.e., to use an exhibition format from a concept to promotion, from a choice of artists to hanging, from a curatorial strategy to a catalogue or a publication. “Groupshow” will be presented in the theatre at Inkonst on April 27 at 19.00.

On April 25 at 17.00, there will also be a lecture on social choreography by Bojana Cvejić, The same evening at 19.00 Mårten Spångberg will perform his performance Slowfall. In the intermission between the two we will serve soup and wine in the theatre foyer.

The works of the Swedish performer, choreographer, author and curator Mårten Spångberg deal with human existence – our self, our realities, our wants – as well as the perception of body and space. In Slowfall he develops a motivation between chakras breathing, and the eastern body practices, and drawing as a mean for the production of choreography. During the piece the single performer produces a large scale drawing as if drafting a machinery of magical illusion, mixed together with a narrative formed around the magical intensities of the body.

Mårten Spångberg is a performance related artist, choreographer and theoretician living and working in Stockholm. He has been active on stage as performer and creator since 1994, and has since 1999 created his own choreography’s from solos to larger scale works, which has toured internationally. He has collaborated with among others Xavier Le Roy, Christine De Smedt/Les Ballets C de la B, Jan Ritsema, Krõõt Juurak. With the architect Tor Lindstrand he initiated International Festival, an interdisciplinary practice merging architecture and choreography/performance. From 1996 – 2005 Spångberg organised and curated festivals in Sweden and internationally. He initiated the network organisation INPEX in 2006. He has thorough experience in teaching both theory and practice. 2008-12 he was director for the MA program in choreography at the University of Dance in Stockholm. In 2011 he published his first book Spangbergianism.

Social Choreography: Proceduralism
The talk will introduce “social choreography” as a concept on double axis. Social choreography offers a perspective of aesthetic continuum between everyday movement and dance. And, according to Andrew Hewitt (Social Choreography: Ideology as Performance in Dance and Everyday Movement, Duke, 2005) it redefines ideology’s mode of operation as “aesthetic” and “performative,”shifting focus from the mechanism of hailing subjects by way of power apparatuses to self-perpetuated embodiment. Social choreography features as a prominent form of ideology today as it demonstrates how social order can no longer be regarded to be reflected or mimed aesthetically by the arts, but how it is aesthetically produced and instilled choreographically. Various practices of dance, performance and everyday movement since the rise of bourgeois society have served as a blueprint for rehearsing social order aesthetically prior to its political establishment. These insights will help us to pose the question: how does movement and performance shape the public sphere today? What does social choreography reveal about the public and the eclipse of its political function?

Bojana Cvejić holds PhD in philosophy (Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, London) and MA and BA in musicology (University of Arts, Belgrade). She is lecturer at Utrecht University, and contemporary dance schools (P.A.R.T.S. Brussels etc.) and works as theorist and performance maker in Europe.  Author, dramaturg or performer in many works since 2000 with a.o. J. Ritsema, X. Le Roy, E. Salamon, M. Ingvartsen, C. De Smedt.  Apart from publishing in performance and philosophy journals, author/editor of several books (recently, A Choreographer’s Score: Fase, Rosas Danst Rosas, Elena’s Aria, Bartók, co-authored with A. T. De Keersmaeker, Mercatorfonds, Brussels, 2012, Public Sphere by Performance, co-authored with A. Vujanović, Bbooks, Berlin 2012, Parallel Slalom: Lexicon of Nonaligned Poetics, co-edited with G. S. Pristaš, TkH/CDU, Belgrade/Zagreb, 2013). Cvejić is member of the editorial collective TkH (Walking Theory) from Belgrade.

Growing up in late 1970ies New York, Annie Bandes-O’Connor aka Little Annie lived a funky and dangerous teenage life. She was the singer of the atonal dance-punk band Annie and the Asexuals, „screaming about thorazine and being in mental hospital“ (Frank Zappa). During the following decade Annie left her home country, moved to the UK and teamed up with the folks of the adventurous polit-punk collective Crass as well as the pioneers of electronic music, Coil.

After these procreative collaborations her musical and artistic path crossed the one of famous producer Adrian Sherwood and his influential On-U Sound imprint – founded in the early 1980ies undoubtedly one of UK’s important independent label, fusing Reggae, Dub, Spoken Word and Post-Punk to a widely respected experimental hybrid. At On-U Sound she became the headline female performer, releasing solo LPs under the pseudonym Annie Anxiety as well as Little Annie.

Like Baby Dee, Little Annie has worked with Current 93 and Antony Hegarty. With composer and pianist Paul Wallfisch she extensively recorded during the last 10 years, developing a new balladic and jazzy cabaret singing style.

Besides her musical career, Little Annie also is a self-taught painter, lyricist and poet – a true multitalent that couldn‘t be more authentic and real as Frank Zappa once put it.

Finally, Little Annie and her dearest friend, the equally extraordinary singer and pianist Baby Dee, have been able to document their long-running collaboration with an album: „State Of Grace“ is featuring the matchless Bonnie „Prince“ Billy and has been released on the UK’s Tin Angel Records mid November 2012, as well as Little Annie’s autobiographie „You Can’t Sing The Blues While Drinking Milk“.

Baby Dee has an equally wild and vivid biography. Born in Cleveland in the 1950ies, she moved to New York in the early 1970ies, worked as a choir leader and music teacher at a catholic church in the Bronx, to later join the Coney Island Sideshow Circus. Eventually she rode through the city on a rebuilt tricycle with a harp mounted in front of it. To establish her own tree-cutting business she returned to Cleveland but now fully concentrates on her musical career.

Baby Deeis an enchanting composer, performance artist, classically trained harpist, circus sideshow veteran, and transsexual street legend. Known originally for playing harp on Antony & The Johnsons debut album – it was Hegarty who sent Dee’s compositions to David Tibet (Current 93) who urged her to produce a solo album. Tibet later went on to release Baby Dee’s first album on his label Durtro. Dee’s discography now includes seven albums released in the last ten years. Her infectious cackle and extraordinary talent on piano, harp and accordion has caught her many musical admirers. Her sound, quintessentially Dee.

Valby vokalgruppe was formed as an experiment into what it is possible to do with the voice and with voices together. The compositions are made partly from improvisations and partly by the leader of the choir Anja Jacobsen. They are based on sounds, rythmical patterns and very close harmonics.

Valby Vokal gruppe has released the 10″ vinyl “De syv mundes fest” in june 2010. On the recording the choir consists of Sonja LaBianca, Maja Zander Fisker, Cæcilie Trier, Felia Gram-Hanssen, Irmelin Gram-Hanssen, Jaleh Negari, Maria Diekmann and Anja Jacobsen.

This dynamic duo Hayes (piano, analogue synths, electronics) and Härdig (vocals, live processing & electronics) met at the Norberg electronic music festival in Sweden summer 2012, where they both gave improvisational performances inside the vast concrete and steel mining structure, Mimer Laven, famous for its seven seconds reverb. They are collaborating on new material, which was performed at Inspace, Edinburgh, and now subsequently at Inkonst Malmö, Sweden.

Lauren Sarah Hayes is a composer and performer from Glasgow who works with combinations of bespoke software, prepared piano, analogue monosynths, drum machines and live electronics. Her practice explores new strategies for live electronic performance by investigating the performer’s physical relationship with the digital realm, and seeking to deepen this through the modality of touch. Her background is in piano, mathematics and philosophy, all of which inform her solo performance work and current research towards a PhD in Creative Music Practice at the University of Edinburgh. She is a regular improviser, collaborating in duos/trios (Můstek, Monosynth Orchestra) and also performing with large-scale ensembles (Edimpro).

She enjoys performing her music around the world, and recent ventures include BEAM (London), Sonorities (Belfast), NIME (Oslo), ICMC (Ljubljana) and EMS (New York). She has been supported by artistic residencies at EMS (Stockholm) in late 2011, in which she gave a live performance for Sveriges Radio P2, and also at STEIM (Amsterdam) in 2012. In 2012 she directed the Inventor Composer Coaction, which facilitated collaboration between composers in Edinburgh and inventors of new digital musical instruments.

Sofi Hellborg has played with Mory Kante, Tony Allen, Etienne Mbappe. She has released 7 CD’s under her own name, with her own compositions and arrangements. She has lived and worked in London and Paris, and performed in many countries worldwide. In 1999 she moved back home to Sweden again, and built up a new band there. Sofi Hellborg is a unique musician in many ways. And her music, mixing afrobeat, funk and jazz is sofisticated and smart, at the same time as it will fill every dansfloor, in the cool north as well as down south. She has played important festivals such as Tanjazz (Marocco) and Pori Jazz (Finland). Her band consists of top-of-the-line musicians from the jazz and world music circuit.

Her 7th CD “Sun & Rain” is released on the Ajabu label. Produced by Sofi she has in this recording invited Obi C Agor, a singer from nigeria/england for 2 songs and on the song Mali, she has collaborated with the percussionist Salieu Dibba who sings a beautiful song for peace. This record showes how well together the band sounds right now.

With his importance, not only to African music, but to groove-based music in general, Fela Kuti is of course a key influence for Sofi Hellborg, but the music does not rest there. Because, even though the musical framework, without a doubt, is built on different kinds of African pop, she adds several other styles to the blend. The fact that there are no more than two horn players on most of the tracks is impressing – the horn arrangements are tight and viral all the way through. The rhythmical drive of base, drums, and percussion carries the music like an onrushing train. With a bunch of excellent songs and plenty of inspiring solos, especially from Sofi Hellborg’s saxophones,Drumming is calling is practically a consummate album.

Spelkultur i Skåne invites you to an evening full of games and people trying to make the world a better place.

At this, the first in a series of G4C nights, Spelkultur i Skåne invites you all to play, discuss and reflect. The theme of the night is migration, refugee issues and asylum-processes. During the event, visitors will get the chance to play several games pertaining to these issues. Also, organizations working with refugees, asylum seekers and the issues in general will be present for discussion and reflection. The night is closed by a short talk and an open discussion about the games.

Spelkultur i Skåne uses games and gaming culture as a method for boosting democratic participation in youths. During spring 2013, they’re putting together several game events at Inkonst and the series of G4C nights is one of these. A story about refugees, rejections and politicians trying to get away from their responsibilities and instead hits the streets armed with iron pipes.

Arrival cities: Malmö is the new production by performing arts collective Teatr Weimar from Malmö. The performance deals with migration in the shadow of the economic crises and the xenophobia that more and more has become the trademark of the european countries. An arrival city is every transit city in a western society where migrants from rural and development areas from both in and outside the country try to make new lives for themselves. The arrival cities are often places of violence and human despair but at the same time also dynamic nodes where change can take place.  Arrival cities: Malmö is trying to examine different aspects of the politics of migration, from the detention of migrants with the arrival of people coming into Schengen, to the nationalist politicians rage and rantings, to the safe houses where the refugee without papers try to hide from the authorities and finally when they are sent back to their native countries to an uncertain destiny. As always with Teatr Weimar language, power and identity are important points of departure in this performance.

Ivo Dimchev (born 1976) is a choreographer and performer from Bulgaria. His work is extreme and colorful mixture of performance art ,dance, theater, music, drawings and photography.
Dimchev is author of more then 30 performances. He has  received numerous international awards for dance and theater and has presented his work all over Europe and North America.
Besides his artistic work Ivo Dimchev has given  master classes in the National theater academy/Budapest , the Royal dance conservatorium of Belgium/Antwerp, Hochschule der Künste/Bern, DanceWeb/Vienna etc.
He is founder and director of Humarts foundation in Bulgaria and organizes every year a National competition for contemporary choreography.
Since Oct 2009 after doing his master studies on performing arts at Dasarts academy / Amsterdam , Ivo Dimchev moved to Brussels where he opened  his own performance space Volksroom where he often presents international young artists.
From Jan 2013 Ivo Dimchev will be Artist in Residence in Kaaitheater, Brussels for 4 years.

This Is Concrete is a slow ride. Two men’s bodies intermingle with each other incessantly, blurring their boundaries. Infused in a sonic environment of dizzying beats and revolving shadows, the performers’ trip is lengthy, sedated, coital. Movements mutate into words as the two men’s voices start to speak their mouths and bodies. In the corporeal and social fusion generated between them, their drive slides into pleasure, talking into eating, fucking into dancing and symbiosis into parasitism.

This Is Concrete is a collaboration between choreographers and dancers Jefta van Dinther and Thiago Granato. The performance ventures staging something intimate, incorporating the volatile as building blocks in its composition – offering to its audience to spend time with something uncertain; something uncertain and infectiously slow.

Jefta van Dinther (SE/NL) is a choreographer and dancer working between Amsterdam, Stockholm and Berlin. In late 2012 he won the Birgit Cullberg award. His recent work GRIND (2011), made in collaboration with lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen and sound designer David Kiers, gained much interest and is now on tour through Europe. He has coreographed a piece for the Cullberg Ballet as well as performed with various other choreographers. He teaches in choreography and is the co-director of the MA program in Choreography together with Frederic Gies at the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. He also organizes The Living Room Festival. ThiagoGranato (BR) is a Brazilian dance artist, who lives and works between Brazil, France and Germany. All Those Beautiful Boyz presents the visible surface of the human body as the perfect venue for all types of discourses around identity and race.

Forget inner values ! Not effort or behavior are the guarantors of social reward and success, but only the outer appearance! or as White on White would put it – the visible surface. Following these logics, the performance duo sketches the vision of a utopian surgical art, that is able to erase cultural and social marks from our faces within seconds, according to context and situation – but whilst our digital profiles seem to comply to body modifications in one click, the human face still proves to be a solid and difficult, sometimes bloody unit.

In this framework, All Those Beautiful Boyz attempts to analyze how european racist concepts have dissolved into contemporary concepts of beauty and are since being violently applied in “all-white”, socially segregated settings, such as for instance the cultural field in sweden or germany. In order to so, White on White sensualizes the relation between seeing and desiring: offering the duo’s bodies – the bodies of european cultural workers – as visible proof of an obvious, unconscious strive for Whiteness.

Crossing discursive and choreographical techniques, All Those Beautiful Boyz works foremost with “projections”, in the very concrete as well as the very abstract sense of the word. With optical illusions and some sweet video stunts, with charme and finesse White on White puts up the simple question: in how far the screen in the center of the stage does display all essential information of a subject projected? and in how far the body of the performer on stage is ever more than its own virtual image?

The Swedish-Brazilian duo Quarto returns to Inkonst with a strong physical and visual experience where philosophical questions about power relations and body are visualized by means of an infinitely long rope.

In ‘Beauty of Accident’ Quarto continues their research within an artistic practice allied to philosophy. What happens to the body when dealing with an object? Or when an object is imposed on the body? How can movement originate from an object? How to return to the object its subjectivity, once lost, in order for it to become object and serve a logical use? How can the object be redefined? What types of force do these bodies evoke? How can perception be provoked or affected through the manipulation of the object? What is an object? 

Would an object be the mode of perceiving a body? The mode of perceiving an interested body? There is always a relation of interest between the subject and object. For example, a rope is one thing when used to bind or hold something together, and another thing when used to threaten someone, which then becomes a weapon. So the rope in itself does not exist, but rather a manner of use. 

Two people are attached to a rope, the rope that evidently refers to, but not strictly speaking is, Ariadne’s thread, the safety wire, webs, the thread of destiny, the cord that links us to each other, the concept of rhizome, the thread between life and death.

Quarto is a Swedish/Brazilian duo founded in 2003 by the director Leandro Zappala and choreographer Anna Mesquita. They invest in a long-term research within interdisciplinary art, deeply rooted in the interaction between theory and practice, together with artists and researchers. Engaged in philosophical questions regarding power relations and body, they seek to generate thought and subjectivity through a radical experience of the body and imagery.

Beauty of Accidentis the last part of the trilogy BEAUTY that initiated in 2009. The research process for Beauty of Accident started in January 2012 in Brazil. It has been produced under a yearlong residence at SITE (production center for performing arts) in Stockholm. In October the process was shared with the public under an artistic residence at The Swedish Arts Grants Committeé’s studio under the International Dance Programme and will premiere at INKONST.

Laurel Halo (US)  is a recording artist from Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States.  Taking influence from the techno of her Midwest roots, Halo has developed a unique take on electronic music, combining the machine pulse of hardware and software instruments (synthesizers, samplers, drum machines) with her own voice to address themes like physical process, liminality, representations of violence and the human-digital strain.  Halo has also released more rhythm-focused music under the alias King Felix, also with clear lineage to the machine soul and dub techno sounds of the Motor City.  Halo’s debut album Quarantine was released on Hyperdub to critical acclaim in 2012, receiving such accolades as #10 Album of the Year in The Washington Post, and the #1 Album of the Year in The Wire Magazine.

Orphan Fairytale (BE)
Orphan Fairytale is the solo project for experimental musician Eva van Deuren, of Antwerp, Belgium.
Van Deuren is a founding member of several groups including Frozen Corpse and Hardline Elephants, both with Carlo Steegen of Audiobot fame. Her debut album Problems In Paradise was released in 2005.
C.G. Jung teached us to create a childplay, to get in touch with our own myth, our past. to gain understanding about ourself. Orphan Fairytale is the musical translation of this technique. under the blanket of naivety you will find treasure. played with a level of illumination and intelligence one rarely encounters in the modern languague of music, Eva Van Deuren builts a whole playground for the lost and found, sounding like both dwarfs playing nursery rhymes, and munchies on a high-energy techno struggle.
Eva released tapes on Imvated, Puik, Beniffer, Blackest Rainbow, etc. a collaborational lp on Dreamtime Taped Sounds, and is working at lp’s for Notnotfun, Ecstatic Peace and Nofun. she also runs her own imprint Pluim.

She did a couple of shows with us opening up; one of those shows was one of the best shows I’ve seen recently. She has these ideas that she wants to do onstage but she improvises as well. She’ll come out and do a tap-dance routine, and then play a Casio keyboard, and then tape down the keys where she really wants to use this chord as a bed for what she’s going to do next, which is when she plays all these toy instruments that she gets from little kids stores and improvises on top of it. She takes it to a certain point and then she starts singing on top of it and mixing it. It’s really good. And it’s really, very listenable and watchable. She’s really delightful to watch on stage. It just sounded glorious. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen this year.

electriXmas is an annual alternative electronic music event.
 Based in Malmö, Swedens 3rd largest city, the festival usually scheduled for the middle of December. It’s the perfect round off to the year and the years most anticipated electronic Xmas party!

ICON OF COIL (NO) was established in 1997 by front-man Andy LaPlegua (renowned such projects as Combichrist, Panzer AG and Scandy) together with fellow countryman Sebastian Komor (Moonitor, Zombie Girl, Komor Kommando). Christian Lund (NorthBorne) joined the lineup in 2000 and later that year the band’s first full-length album ‘Serenity is the Devil’ was released. The popularity of hits such as ‘Floorkiller’ and ‘Shallow Nation’ saw the album climb to number one on the Deutsche Alternative Charts.

In 2004 the band released their third album ‘Machines Are Us’. Classic dancefloor fillers such as ‘Access & Amplify’, ‘Other Half Of Me’ and ‘Love As Blood’ saw the continuing trend of pummelling beats, sympathetic vocals, anthem-like melodies, and sweeping synths.
Now in 2012 Icon Of Coil is finally back with a new single, an album on the way as well as US and European tours. We’re thrilled to welcome the band to Scandinavia for the winter – and we can promise you, it’s going to be one hell of a party!!

JÄGER 90 (DE) is a musical duo from Rostock founded in 2005 by Thoralf Dietrich, also known for his side projects such as DAF.Partei. Vigo Stahlmann recently replaced Stev A on live drums. Their musical roots reach back into the early 80s. Henric de la Cour (SE), previously known for his work with Strip Music, has made his comeback as a solo artist and the international media has been abound with positive reviews.

The difference between receiving medical treatment or being forced to turn at the door in spite of a serious disease, of getting a job and a home or not, could be a personal number. This is the theme for the anthology Omänskliga rättigheter, about the situation for undocumented refugees in Sweden. On Tuesday the 4th of December you are welcome to come and celebrate the release of this book and support Asylgruppen i Malmö’s work for asylum seekers and undocumented refugees.

It’s going to be a night of music, recitals and dancing. Pieces from the book will be recited by authors from the book and also malmö based author Kristian Lundberg and comic artist Sara Granér. The band come across the tracks will be playing North American folk tunes and the night will finish with crazy dancing! The book will be for sale for the reduced price of 120:-

Guest of honor is Jorge Luiz de Freitas – better known as Mestrando Piri Quito Verde – a renowned martial artist with over 36 years of experience in the art of Capoeira. His extensive work and contribution to Capoeira led him in 2011 to be recognized as Mestrando by the oranization ABADÁ-Capoeira, a title shared by only eight other members of a group which has over 40 000 members worldwide.
A selection of the talented capoeiristas who will appear on the show are following: Instructor Cabeludo do Nordeste (= the one from the northeast with a lot of hair) – Born and raised in Fortaleza, Brazil, began practicing Capoeira when he was nine years old. At age 19, he began teaching Capoeira. Since 2007 he lives and teaches in Belgium. Instructor Cachorro D’Agua (=water dog) – was born in the small beach village of Barra de Sucatinga, Brazil and raised in Fortaleza. At seven years of age Cachorro D’Agua began not only to surf but also to practice Capoeira. He stuck fast, and is now since many years a popular and skilled trainer in the martial art.  He now teaches in Örebro. Graduado Preá do Mato (= guinea pig of the jungle) – Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, and later Fortaleza. Preás first contact with capoeira was in 1986. Preá now lives and teaches in Lund, where he also runs a capoeira project för disabled children. Graduado Anúm (= the black bird who dies if it is kept in a cage) – born and raised in Acaraú, Brazil, and later Fortaleza. Anúm became world champion in 2009 in the category azul/verde! He also runs the organization ABADÁ-Capoeira Malmö, where he is the very appreciated lead instructor.

Juan Dominguez is a performer, choreographer, stage director and curator from Spain. Since1992 Juan Dominguez develops his own work, predicated on questions of the theatre as medium, the parameters of dance: time and space. Exploring the relationship between the different codes, his works advocate the complete dissolution between fiction and reality. Currently he focuses on the intersection of different sensibilities and the question of how to radicalise the necessity of creation and the repercussions of choreographic work

The day before the workshop, On the 17th of Nov, Juan Dominguez will also present himself and his work at the seminar ”The tigers of Wrath Are Wiser Than The Horses Of Instruction” and give a performance ”All Good Spies Are My Age” at Inkonst.

Background:  We named the season INSTITUTIONAL MELANCHOLY, as a way to address the increasing economizing and instrumentaliziation of the performing arts field and its symptoms. Besides looking into the structural levels of the issue, we also would like to discuss the actual transformation of our artistic and curatorial practice. We therefore invited Juan to make a special session where we try to articulate our concerns on the backdrop of the season discussions.

Allow us to introduce you to the world of I Break Horses, the nom de plume of Maria Lindén and her musical partner Fredrik Balck. Residing in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, the duo have quietly been crafting the nine tracks that make up debut album Hearts throughout stolen moments gathered up over the past three years.

Songs were written, committed to tape, destroyed. The task of capturing the sonic density of Lindén’s compositions was painstaking. Balck’s lyrics constantly teasing the senses “Lay your cold hand down on my hardest vein” (‘Cancer’) are at times insular, cold to the touch. It’s only when interpreted by Maria’s effortless croon that a warmth is added, like the first rays of sun on a cold winters morning. A balancing act of light vs. dark that reveals a beauty within the darkness.

Perhaps one would think that the results of such endeavours would be somewhat disjointed, with the influences and experiences of 36 months being thrown into the mix, Hearts could almost come across as erratic, unfocused. Thankfully, it’s quite the opposite.

Although heavily (and openly) influenced by My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Jesus & Mary Chain et al – Hearts is far from an exercise in typical shoegaze fayre. Lindén, possibly the most diminutive and unassuming person one could ever wish to meet, is transformed on record to appear 10 ft tall: a shit kicker in high-fidelity. And, perhaps where contemporaries would hypnotize the listener into their world by sheer volume alone, I Break Horses lock firmly onto the very thing that makes each and every one of us ‘tick’. Our pulse. Our Hearts. The common thread that links the nine songs together; always present, always beating – the albums strength and presence guided entirely by it.

Coupled with Lindén’s vocal, a gorgeous Scandinavian croon that’s bathed in an ocean of reverb and tremelo, Hearts is quite the sonic experience. It can’t be cast aside via a few meagre adjectives or genre classifications; you have to live it, live inside it. It will soak you up, embrace you and give back what you put in and so much more.

Hellshovel are a trio, started by old Demons Claws member Jeff Clarke. From the beginning it was jambased heavy psychedelic but lately the sound is lighter and the popmelodies is clearer. Makes me think more about bands like The Creation or Electric Prunes.

Flowers Must Die are gonna open up, last two times they where in Malmö they open for My Brother The Wind at Moriskan and for the mighty OM at Inkonst. For this time they will bring there fresh third album, a double so more of there psychedelic jams would fit.

As always we need to have something that isnt that typical guitar-bass-drumband that are playing in the other room. So at the entree we present Arkhe, Arkhe are a primitiv industrial-noise act which are also on one of the so far 6 releases out of 12 from the Malmölabel Solförmörkelse.

Choreia is a collective of djs/producers that from last year have shown Malmö what real techno is all about. They have established a well known name for themselves in the underground scene and these guys work hard to keep the Rave culture alive. They do this through the things they love the most, TECHNO AND DANCING!

The harder side of techno has been lacking in Malmö and the options has been few. The boys of Choriea think its time for change and are therefore proud to present the latest rising star from the UK, BLAWAN.

Blawan is the guy from Yorkshire who broke through with the songs “Farm / Iddy”, released on Hessle Audio. He has shaken Britain’s underground and his song “Getting Me Down” was voted the “Track Of The Year” by Fact Magazine. Blawan has created a unique sound with punchy and raw techno that is a pleasure to dance to. His playful mixes and thoughtful sets guarantees a night we all late will forget!

Soon the wait is over. In november El Perro Del Mar will release her new album Pale Fire. One of only three concerts in Sweden will be held at Poppretton. This will be a night of pop to remember with live concert and dance, dance, dance.  

El Perro del Mar (literally “The Dog of the Sea” in Spanish) is a musical project that was founded in December 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sole member of El Perro del Mar, Sarah Assbring, initially started as an MP3/CD-R artist and released her first songs through Hybris Records. Her music could be described as melancholic lo-fi indie pop.
From 2004 to late 2005, her records had only been released by the Swedish label, Hybris, but in 2006, Sarah experienced a host of newfound success when her self-titled album El Perro del Mar was picked up by UK-based label, Memphis Industries, under which Dungen and The Go! Team also release. Prior to the self-titled album, Sarah had recorded and released Look! It’s El Perro del Mar! and the EP You Gotta Give to Get, in Spring 2005 and November 2005 respectively.
In early 2007, El Perro del Mar ended her relationship with Scandinavian label Hybris and began a new relationship with The Concretes label Licking Fingers. Her second full-length album titled From the Valley to the Stars was released in Spring 2008.

Saxophonist Elin Larsson is coming to our season finale! She’s most known from her multi-award winning band “Elin Larsson Group”. Elin has been referred to as “phenomena” in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet and in 2010 she won the Swedish radio price “Jazzkatten”. Now we get to hear her new band, Pace, with Adam Forkelid on piano, Pär-Ola Landin on bass and Christopher Cantillo on drums. Pace moves freely over hills of improvised tones that just flies by and play in a swirling wind with the audience’s minds until we can’t sit still anymore.

Susanne Sundfør! This legend in my heart, I can hardly believe that she’s coming to På Jam! Her music is a mixture of forests, ruins, technology and silicone. Quebec composer, performer and new media/video artist Martin Messier’s esthetic can be defined as a complex, left field and happily strange sound and rythm amalgam, constantly playing with construction and deconstruction. His audio performance, live electronics, installation, videomusic, music for dance and theatre have been presented in national and international festivals such as Mutek (Canada), Festival TransAmériques (Montreal), Bang on a Can (NY), Transmediale (Berlin) and Sonar (Barcelona, Chicago).

His latest work  - SEWING MACHINE ORCHESTRA – entirely orchestrated with the acoustic noises produced by 1940′s sewing machines amplified by means of microcontacts and process by computer, tackles the listener imagination primarily through the evocative power of those old industrial marvels. Ian Svenonius is an American musician, notable as the singer of various Washington, D.C.-based bands including Nation of Ulysses, The Make-Up, Weird War, and Chain and The Gang. Between his numerous projects, Svenonius has released more than 15 full-length albums and more than 20 singles, EPs, and splits. Svenonius is also a published author and an online talk show host.
Svenonius’ career has been characterized by antics and theatrics. His first band, Nation of Ulysses, formed in 1988, was influential in the Washington D.C. punk scene. The band broke up in 1992 after failing to record their third studio album. After a short-lived side-project called Cupid Car Club, Svenonius formed The Make-Up in 1995, who combined garage rock, soul, and a so-called “liberation theology” to make a new genre they dubbed “Gospel Yeh-Yeh”. The Make-Up dissolved early in 2001, and a year later, Svenonius formed the band Weird War, who were also known briefly as the Scene Creamers. Svenonius’ solo work includes the 2001 album Play Power under the fictional pseudonym of David Candy, the book The Psychic Soviet, and as host of Soft Focus on VBS.tv. Svenonius’ projects and writings have all shared an anti-authoritarian, Marxist political rhetoric.

“Quintron has been making genre-defying noise and “Swamp-Tech” dance music in New Orleans for over fifteen years. The majority of his 13 full-length albums have the psychedelic soul of New Orleans garage R&B filtered through a tough distorted Hammond B-3 and a cache of self-made electronic instruments. He has also released strange soundscapes based on inner-city field recordings of frogs and neighborhood ambiance as well as holing himself up in THE NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART for three months to create the epic “Sucre Du Sauvage” (Goner, 2011). In addition to his own recordings, Quintron has played organ on a number of other records, most notably THE OBLIVIONS ”9 Songs” and STEVE RILEY AND THE MAMOU PLAYBOYS ”Grand Isle” which was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 and featured the Quintron penned song “Chatterbox”.

Quintron regards his most significant creation to be his patented instrument called the THE DRUM BUDDY, a light activated analog synthesizer that creates murky, low-fidelity, rhythmic patterns. Notable DRUM BUDDY clients include performers Nels Cline of Wilco, Laurie Anderson, Fred Armisen, and DJ Mr. Dibbs. He has recently invented an analog “drone synthesizer” called THE SINGING HOUSE which is completely modulated by the weather.

Quintron’s permanent collaborator is none other than master puppeteer, MISS PUSSYCAT who plays maracas and sings, as well as entertaining all age groups with her highly amusing technicolor puppet shows.

Hers are complex puppet shows beautifully crafted for success in intimate venues of late night drinking and dancing: tactile, idiosyncratic characters, pithy dialogue, electronically pixilated soundtracks, and trippy black light effects create a visual and engaging overture/finale to Quintron and Miss Pussycat’s music sets. Quintron aids in puppet manipulation and voicing. Miss Pussycat, in turn, sings lead and back-up and plays maracas during Quintron’s performances.

The Quintron / Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, “Swamp-Tech” dance beats, small explosions, incredible clothes, and entertaining puppet stories.  You can see them perform regularly at the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans, Louisiana or on one of their many tours around the world.  This act somehow has equal relevance in sleazy nightclubs, pizza restaurants, and university lecture halls.”

The theme of this year’s Music Around festival is London. A location that many of the participants probably haven’t experienced in any other way than through different kinds of media. Even so, it’s no challenge for the audience and the performers to physically be in Malmö, while mentally they’re on the other side of the north sea. We train ourselves in this kind of double presence every day, with the help of computers and phones.

During tonights concert, MHM Laptop Band represents a virtual reality that changes and evolves beyond the control of a single person. Instrumentalists are invited to musically react to this unrelenting flow of information and the stress it creates.

Tom Bugs (Bristol, UK) has been designing electronic audio machines since 2004 under the BugBrand moniker. Beginning with the lo-fi chaos of the Weevils, Tom has always pushed the boundaries of device presentation (cigar boxes, bare circuit boards..) and interface (body contacts..), while remaining steadfastly analogue. Over the last 5 years Tom has focused in more on Modular Synths and now has around 50 of his systems dotted around the world.

The interest comes from the meeting of science and art – Tom has feet in both the engineering and music worlds – and this really shows in how he approaches designing. Think ‘Flow & Feel’ coupled with ‘Stability & Technicality’.

Today Tom begins with a discussion and demonstration focusing on his BugBrand Modular – why he chose to carve his own niche within the already niche world of modular synths, building an entire system from the ground up; the ethos of his electronic designs and business approaches; how circuits and fabrication have mutated over the years.

Following this there will be a hands-on session for people to try out his synth system, before finishing up with a live performance which highlights his improvised ‘rolling play fight’ approach to working with the modular. Expect thick sonic drones gradually shifting into poly-rhythmic technoids.

“Like a train through a story” – that’s how my friend described the music the first time she heard it. That’s just how it feels. The Danish pianist and composer Karen Bach’s music is made up of different parts that feel like events in a sequence where we follow the story from beginning to end, with its highs and lows, exciting thrills and hovering elements where you can just float with the clouds while Karen paints tones beside, under and around you. The neoliberal global economy is collapsing, and our present financial system seems to dissolve. We only have to wait and see wether it’s a final crisis.

A consequence of post-Fordism is that knowledge has replaced human labor as principal agent in the process of valorisation, and continually expanding humane capital has taken a leading role in production.

The cultural industry is based on exploitation of intellectual property in order to reach maximum profit.

Huh? Yes, writing somewhat intangible blanket statements about global politico-economic events such as these seems quite contrived in a Nordic context. The Nordic welfare system is relatively functional, the labor market is OK, the equality between sexes is better than in most countries and the economy is stable enough to face the current financial disarray in Europe. To segue from these statements into reflecting on the development of the stage arts is not only hard, it can also be construed as an exaggerated will to over-analyze. At the same time, all areas of society are being economized, and culture is being instrumentalized at an increasing pace, with raising expectations of commercial orientation. We could benefit from taking the time to think about where these trends will lead, but also speculate on what will happen to the scenic arts over time. In this spirit, we will dedicate ourselves to investigating the current economical and political state and the climate of cultural politics this fall, in order to chart the effects in the field of stage arts. We will collaborate with a corporate consultant in order to make a business analysis of the future of public theatre and to draft a suggestion for a program for a season. Invited stage artists have developed strategies that question the actual autonomy of the theatrical event, showing how it is intertwined with social, economic and political life. During two seminars, we will immerse ourselves in the relationship between the culture industry and nationalism, and look more closely upon under which conditions we can run a public playhouse and produce stage art in these times of economic and political turmoil. In conclusion: we will take the theatre, the performing arts and the audience to the rack in order to understand our contemporary surroundings.

The Malmö based group Public Plot investigates collective actions and experiences, in a staging of Swedish authority culture.

Gatekeepers of Sweden is a performing act by and with Public Plot. The recently founded Public Plot investigates collective actions and experiences within the context of the theatre’s theory and practice. Gatekeepers of Sweden is a staging of the culture of Swedish authorities.

Public Plot offers a performance where they through practical exercises and examples aim to show they way to minimize the risks of damage against human and material resources. At the same time as they aim to give the citizens the expected service and the information that they need to proceed within the system.

The performance starts as soon as you buy your ticket. Because of this, the 19th September is the last day to get tickets for the shows. Public Plot will do everything in their power so that your processing time will be as short as possible.

The group Public Plot started out of a desire to investigate the collective actions and experiences that spring to life when groups of people meet in different situations. The four members Alex, Ebba, Emmeli and John met during studies in ”Teatern i teori & praktik” (translates as: Theatre; Practice and Theory) at Malmö Theatre Academy. This and the fact that everyone in the group has been involved in different leftist organizations helped to create a reference collection and a starting point for theory and action. Gatekeepers of Sweden is the group’s first production and it aims to investigate the collective in a time of individualism.

The sequel to the praised ”Conte d’ Amour”, a post-colonial fantasy about omnipotence and European family structures.

“Daddy” is caught in a crisis. The family has managed to escape the horrors of Joseph Fritzl’s cellar, now daily routine dominates life. The division of social roles has been weakened by middle-class, westernized ways of life: daddy still might be head of his family, the provider and protector of women and children, but he has been ‘castrated’ by society’s lack of recognition for his role as patriarch and feels restricted in the implementation of the family project. We love Africa and Africa loves us takes up where Conte d’Amour left off. While Conte d’Amour described the story of a vertical “stepping down” in the cellar of romantic love, in this new production by Markus Öhrn [Niskanpää/Berlin], Institutet [Malmö/Berlin] and Nya Rampen [Helsinki/Berlin], the family has managed to make it to the ground floor. From here – a kind of ground zero of modern democracy – its members try to find external justification for the internal psychology. Western images of Africa as an unknown, wild, authentic place in need of aid conveniently lend it the ‘otherness’ the white family needs to redefine and inspire its conventions. We love Africa and Africa loves us projects ideals of white nuclear families onto the dynamics involved in humanitarian aid for the so-called Third World. This drama about the relationship between helpers and the helped turns post-colonial and racist attitudes into hegemonic, patriarchal fantasies of omnipotence. A projection of inner chaos onto a distant continent called Africa – and a journey to the heart of European darkness.

Premiere at Ballhaus Ost, Berlin October 6, 2012

The collaboration between Nya Rampen (FIN), Institutet (SWE), and the artist Markus Öhrn (SWE) brought the noted performance Conte d’Amour (2010) that has been presented on Ballhaus Ost Berlin, Inkonst Malmö, Baltic Cirlcle Festival, Helsinki, Kulturhuset Stockholm, Théatre de Gennevilliers Paris, Impulse Festival, Krakowskie Reminiscencje Teatralne, Süpol Luzern and in a near future also Theater Treffen and Wiener Festwochen.

Institutet
Institutet was founded in 2000 and is a touring Swedish theatre group operating from Malmö and Berlin. The aim of Institutet is to take part in international exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of contemporary stage art and to explore new aesthetical strategies that challenge both audience and ourselves. With awareness of the post-political condition of our times, the main themes are love, identity, freedom and emptiness. The working method for Institutet is to build international alliances between open minded and progressive agents and to claim space for critical thinking and for artistic approaches to life.

Nya Rampen
The Finland-Swedish theatre group Nya Rampen was founded in 1999 in Helsinki. It is run by its founding members Elmer Bäck, Rasmus Slätis and Jacob Öhrman with producer Elin Westerlund.
Nya Rampen’s aim is to push the boundaries of theatre and thus keep the door open to other art forms and movements. By challenging the preconceptions that exist about what theatre should be, the group strives to find new expressions, and even new ways of approaching the theatrical space.
The group is based in Berlin with strong connections to Helsinki and Scandinavia.

Markus Öhrn
Markus Öhrn is a Swedish visual artist, born 1972, he graduated from the Masters of Fine Art programme at Konstfack in Stockholm in 2008. Markus works mainly with video installations and his work has been exhibited both in Sweden and internationally. For example the video installation Magic Bullet that was last shown at the Museum of Modern Art Stockholm, 2011 and at Volksbühne Berlin, 2012.
Conte DʼAmour is the first theatre performance Markus has directed.
Markus Öhrn lives and works in a small village in northern Sweden, Niskanpää and in Berlin, Germany.

Mesmerizing conceptual choreography in a dreamlike performance where sound, lighting, audience, stage design and artists are all equally important.

nothing’s for something is a playful and dreamlike performance; a choreography of objects, where sound, light, audience, stage design and artists are equally important.  Avdal and Shinozaki create an intimate, poetic relationship together with their audience. Their aim is to reveal the hidden moments in life and uncover the reality behind the visible world.

Avdal and Shinozaki, both dancers and choreographers, have worked together site-specifically in semi-public spaces, like hotel rooms and offices. With “nothing’s for something” they return to the stage. For this piece they have been inspired by Paul Klee, who danced while he painted, by Rainer Maria Rilke, the perfectionist of method and form, and master of the ordinary, Georges Perec. In “nothing’s for something”, Avdal and Shinozaki return to their roots while using their experience of near-audience, site-specific work to create this performance written for the stage. It premiered at the Kaaitheater in Brussels earlier this year.

Heine Avdal studied dance, choreography and video at Oslo National College of the Arts and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He was in Meg Stuart’s company Damaged Goods and has collaborated with Gary Hill, Ann Hamilton and Stefan Pucher.
Yukiko Shinozaki studied classical ballet in Tokyo but moved to the U.S, where she studied contemporary dance and psychology at Portland State University. Since 1997 she is based in Brussels, with Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods among others.
Shinozaki and Avdal have been working together since 2000, and tour worldwide with several pieces; one of them is the series Field Works, performances in semi-public spaces that explore daily routines and create an absurd, dreamlike state.

White on White explores whiteness as a social construction, with focus on beauty, physical attraction and the possibilities of plastic surgery. 

In the logic of On the Beauty of Seriality the visible surface turns out to be the ineluctable signifier of reality. The working assumption of White on White therefor claims the overlooked potential of cosmetic interventions for profound social change.

Not our behaviour seems to guarantee social integration to society, but our looks – the visible surface.
Following a line of thinking suggested by Critical Whiteness thinker Kaplana Seshadri-Crooks (“Desiring Whiteness”, 2000), who would claim that all social marks are visible on the body and can be perceived with the bare eye, the performance-duo aims at analyzing racism and class discrimination in relation to contemporary concepts of BEAUTY.

In an act of subversive affirmation the duo´s own position as privileged WHITE males and the bodies produced by this very social status serve as examples for the research.
In the mixing of choreographic and discursive techniques the performers step back behind their surface, to the extent that it starts to speak for itself.

On the Beauty of Seriality is a step down into the process of their upcoming work White on White #5 – all those beautiful boyz, opening at Südpol-Luzern December 2012.

*About Akseli Virtanen
Dr.Sc. (Econ.) Akseli Virtanen is a theorist of new political economy. He is a member of Robin Hood Asset Management Cooperative and the coordinator of Future Art Base at Aalto University. He is currently working on eight experiments on coming forms of politics and organization, among them Robin Hood contra-investment bank of the precariat, and Kafkamachine film project studying coming cooperations, based on a project plan by Félix Guattari. He teaches new political economy and philosophy of organization at the Aalto University School of Economics. Robin Hood Minor Asset Management
Robin Hood Asset Management Cooperative was established in 2012 in the middle of the crisis of economy and ruins of Europe. The lesson from the background analysis was clear: The financialization of economy is a fact. Precarization is not a passing phenomenon, but becoming the normal way of the organization of labour. Financial market has nothing to do with free competition. The number of banks in the world has reduced in the last 30 year by 40%. Only 10 big investment banks control over 90% of the entire derivative market whose size is estimated to be around 1200-1400 million milliard dollars (over 20 times the entire world GNP). During the first three months of 2012 alone, the profit of Goldman Sachs was over 2,1 milliard dollars, HSBC investment banking 3,1 milliard dollars, JP Morgan 5,4 milliard dollars. Their own employees and leaders have confessed the manipulation and exploitation of clients for making profit. The power to create money is in the hands of the financial market, but we have no access to it. Our money is obliged to take part in the market, but we never profit from it. We just carry the risks. There is a deep asymmetry between those who are able to create money by transforming it into financial capital (income not tied to the necessity to work) and those whose only access to money is to work (possibly at any cost) – or first take debt, and then work. Could we bend the financialization of capital into the advantage of precarious workers? Could we challenge the debt mechanism of control, the command to submit to any work, the limited options we have for financing our living? Could we think of sharing the means of creating money financial capital has in its use, of putting them to work also for us? Could we think of a relation to money, not as binding us with debt to capital relation, but as a means of freedom and increase of independence? Could we think of profanation of finance, of returning its space to common use and play?

Public Movement is a performative research body which investigates and stages political actions in public spaces. It studies and creates public choreographies, forms of social order, and overt and covert rituals. Since 2006 Public Movement has explored the regulations, forces, agents, and policies, formations of identity and systems of ritual which govern the dynamics of public life and public space. Actions include manifestations of presence, fictional acts of hatred, new folk dances, spectacles, marches, moments in the life of individuals, communities, social institutions, peoples, states, and of humanity. Public Movement was founded in November 2006 by Omer Krieger and Dana Yahalomi, and has been led by Dana Yahalomi since 2011.

Inkonsts Black Box Disco Club is running for the second night this season, this time in collaboration with artist Goro Tronsmo’s “Muscle Temple“, which you also can experience in a reality show version earlier in the evening. Together they create a unique club experience, presenting the French super DJ Jennnifer Cardini and Swedish Sandra Mosh. We’re also presenting the event 100 Thousand Artistes for Change to the lobby bar during the evening. We’re also especially inviting the city’s art minglers as the Gallery Night Official afterparty.

Jennifer Cardini is an icon and amazing dj for 15 years changed peoples lives with their wonderful DJ kit. She is a music enthusiast who on stage has only one thing in his head – to play the right record at exactly the right time. Her early influences came from Detroit, Chicago and Cologne, house music was the entrance to a DJ lives with memorable gigs at the world’s most renowned clubs. 2008 came the big breakthrough when she was the first French female artist was signed to the German giant Compact.

For more than 15 years, Jennifer Cardini has been working the European electronic dance music circuit. Her early influences came from Detroit, Chicago, and Cologne, which led her to play primarily house music in the late ‘90s at clubs in France; but time and experience allowed her style to develop into the more experimental techno sets she’s known for today.   After her move to Paris in 1998, Cardini ultimately became one of the first of a generation of French DJ’s to play the stripped-down Berlin sound that would eventually settle into a distinctive movement in electronic music – ‘minimal’ even before that genre term became popular.   In Paris, she quickly became a resident at two of the most influential venues at the time – Le Pulp, which turned into the underground hot spot for avante-garde music, and Rex Club, which continues to be the site of her groundbreaking “Correspondant” parties. It has been at these shows that her skill and passion for music became fully realized, and where she earned her reputation as an icon in electronic music culture.  Over the course of her career, Cardini has continued to work hard and constantly improve, landing her regular appearances at elite venues like Fabric in London, Womb in Tokyo, and Tresor and Panorama Bar in Berlin. Cardini also reached a major milestone in 2008, becoming the first female French artist to sign with Kompakt, with the release of her compilation, Feeling Strange. In addition to her DJ work, Cardini’s productions have also been successfully on target, right from her first acid house 12-inch on Pumpking Records in 1996, all the way through her latest EP on Crosstown Rebels. These carefully crafted tracks have been slowly released over the years, but they have landed solidly on techno powerhouse labels like Mobilee and Kill the DJ. Most recently, Cardini has been spending more time continuing her production efforts, focusing on her current solo projects. She is also starting her own label, Correspondant, as an outlet for her musical vision.

Sandra Mosh is P3′s resident DJ who brings out electronic underground music on the air every Friday night. Her acclaimed DJ Show Musikguiden in P3 with Sandra Mosh has been broadcast in nearly two years and ensured that both post-dubstep as deep housen found a place in national radio. Her sets usually move in the deeper border between house and techno.
2012, she has been busy with, among other things festivalgigs Way Out West, Hultsfred Festival and Dance Dakar. Besides that, she commuted to Stockholm every weekend to keep in their residencies at Spy Bar and the Art of Sound.

The Norwegian director and artist Goro Tronsmo invites you to the premiere of the film Muscle Temple, a reality experiment which takes place in a chain of events where the conventional scene framework is erased.

In a study of the intersection between fiction and reality, Goro Tronsmo filmed everything a scenic art company did during an entire repetition period. Everything that took place during their time together was documented. Everything and nothing was real. The cameras became their only audience of importance. Through the group members’ new, carefree attitude and exhibitionistic behavior, the commonplace expressions and laziness became focus in the experiment. By the end of the period they had made their own self-portrait – free-lancing stage artists as hip, disillusioned slackers. When the company, during the last episode of the reality show, travelled to the Black Box Theatre in Oslo, they were perceived as being ”party Swedes”. The Norwegian audience saw ordinary young, Swedish guest workers who the director picked up from the street to use in her reality show. The fictive reality had taken over.

After the film show at Inkonst, the group members meet again for the first time since the project ended, for a panel discussion. The audience joins in this seemingly real situation and plays the main role in the two dimensional script that Transmo uses.

Therefore, Goro Tronsmo also invites you to a club night in collaboration with Black Box Disco Club, where über cool, French DJ Jennifer Cardini controls the turntables. Last but not least, this will be the official after party for Malmö’s annual Gallery Night.

Goro Tronsmo, who works in Berlin, Oslo and Stockholm, makes contextual performances and stage shows which questions and relates to curating, the architectural context of the stage and the institutional framework for performance art. Through her way of communicating with the actors, Tronsmo has developed a kind of hyper realism.

To start with, we simply wanted to see these artists shows!

We find them really inspiring… they all have very diverse ways in their expressions and it feels like they play around with different norms and genres within each of their context and still have a lot of integrity.

When we take part in their devotion for sound and movement it feels like something that is less effected by commercial forces and standards, that is more difficult to categorize and motivated for completely different reasons.

Rroxymore
Emerged from a circular cube of hot ice, Rroxymore is a solo electronic live project of Hermione FRANK, who has toured/performed as band member with SpeedCaravan, Ekova and recently with Planningtorock.
Now she performs her sounds with bouncing tenderness. Her glittery wrestling cape hides her back line to reveal her complex basslines, an extensible system of tribal pulses and sonant keyboards. Parisian exiles and smokes of Tobago drove her to Berlin, where she further explores the telepathy and efferverscence of a new kind of Javanaise shadowphonies.

Cel’s music is a journey through different rooms. You hear sounds on the verge of breaking, that then morph into synthesized electric tones made from vocal and physical experimentations. With Cel’s voice in falsetto, the performance opens up to a view of floating flying beautiful melodies.
Cel also known as Mt Sims, is a Berlin-based electronic-musician originally from Milwaukee, USA. He is continuously trying out different sets of expressions: starting in 2002 with his album “Ultrasex” with melodic electronic dancy music; moving onto a more punky dramatic psychodrama in 2008; collaborated with The Knife and Planningtorock in 2010 on an opera; and now as Cel, he works with both video and sound.

Tragic Cabaret
Tragic Cabaret is the solo project of Newcastle-based artist Marie Thompson. Using homemade noisemakers, chanced-upon tape loops, and hand-me-down electronics, she creates something that is around two parts songfulness to three parts noise. She also makes sounds in the bands Beauty Pageant, Ghostly Porters and J.G. Bollard.

Stina Nyberg: Loudspeaking
By making up her own somatic practice Stina Nyberg has created a system for the materialisation of emotions – and drawn a new anatomic map. Based in the new body her feelings express themselves to their audience. In this choreographic concert the lead singer is the body itself, and her instrument is the feeling.
Stina Nyberg is educated as a dancer from Balettakademien in Stockholm and graduated from the MA in choreography (Mychoreography) at DOCH in January. Stinas work often relates to the notion of practice and she is co-curator of the Practice Symposium taking place in Stockholm in September. In 2011 she created the solo Loudspeaking in collaboration with Rosalind Goldberg and Sandra Lolax, and this autumn she will rework the solo during a residency at Movement Research in New York.

This is How To Dress Wells (US) most awaited return. The concert is presented by Kärleksdöden & Luger in collaboration with Inkonst.

HTDW has been praised recently for his sensible form of R&B, especially after the full-length debut Love Remains (2010), a genre he more or less invented. Love Remains moved between melancholy and euphoria, with sometimes heartbreaking moments.

When HTDW now releases his second album, Total Loss, September 17 through Weird World / Domino, he is more prominent than before. Production has been tightened up a notch – a brave move for an artist who made a name for himself by creating hazy ambient R&B .
Live HTDW has gone from a one man act to a band with strings, and is now backed by Babe Rainbow and Aaron Read. HTDWs enchanting concert at this year’s Stay Out West festival (Gothenburg, Sweden) gave a hint of what the future has to offer.

HTDW is now returning to Sweden with his second album. “Total Loss” is spellbinding with its indescribable beauty.

How to Dress Well is the stage name of experimental pop producer and singer, ethereal/R&B artist Tom Krell, from Brooklyn. His debut album, Love Remains, was released in 2010 on Lefse in the USA and Tri Angle in UK/Europe/Asia. It received a score of 8.7 and the “Best New Music” designation from music review site Pitchfork Media. Stereogum recognized him as one of its “40 Best Bands of 2010″.SPIN gave it 8 out of 10 stars, calling it “as meditative as it is evocative… conjuring fractured memories of Shai or TLC.”
In addition to making music, Krell is a graduate student in philosophy and has studied in the United States and in Europe (most specifically, Cologne and Berlin, Germany).

John Essing - Mörka Ljuset (LP/Digital) release at Psychic Malmö on September 5th. Let’s celebrate!

Mörka Ljuset (The Dark Light) sounds like John Essing somewhat snatched a glimpse of an inner space stored away in his head, tapped into it and got it down on tape. It goes through a cross-breed of musical genres and styles spanning the centuries all at once, with no start, no beginning. All is here and now. It’s a free form stream more than a recurring thing. When he played it out, this is what got caught on tape. In a way it’s like no physical travel has been involved, no other record or artist has been the foundation. It is all accumulated through osmosis – through living and breathing what can’t be seen or heard – and has no real meaning until it all falls together.

John Essing, born 1964 in Stockholm, is a musician and a member of bob hund, Bergman Rock and Chesty Morgan. Essing has been in a band called Conny & Johnny, along with Bob Hund’s other guitarist Conny Nimmersjö. Johnny and Bob Hund’s bassist Mats Hellquist were the two who invented the name bob hund, from a cartoon called Bob the dog. Johnny began his career in punk band Incest Brothers at the age of thirteen. In the 80s he was also a member of ZOO where Mats Andersson was the other member, and of Gary Cooper Combo where he took over from Mats Hellquist who then played guitar. (from Wikipedia)

Is a Malmö band with over 15 years, and dozens of crazy concerts behind them.
For the first time they will share the stage with Pets Or Food, both bands seems related both in their music and in its expression, especially live.
Dipper is the mutating beast of raw frenzy of The Stooges, swamp rock grinding from the Birthday Party and the pop punk from Wire and the Buzzcocks.

Would have been obvious to elaborate on Dipper or Pets Or Foods musical heroes and similar artists, but we need to clear our heads and keep the impressions we will be showered with from both bands.
So the evening dedicated to three of my heroes, they are all for lighthearted pop and avant-garde twist at the same time. They have defied the norms in the music industry and still fulfill its important footprints in the well-trodden musical history.
Only music from Scott Walker, Nico, Tim Buckley this evening, there will be both difficult, geeky, light and beautiful.

Livity Sound is without comparison one of the most interesting and contemporary acts from the UK at the moment, serving you raw dance music straight from the Bristol underground – nothing more nothing less.

Without getting too mixed up in genres, trends and terms, this is an act that more or less sums up the sound of the UK scene right now – announcing their arrival with a string of well received vinyl only underground releases over the past 12 months, Livity Sound is the new live project and label combining the talents of the Bristol trio of Peverelist, Kowton & Asusu with a mandate to explore the edges of techno, house and garage through prism of the Bristol echo chamber.

Tom Ford aka Peverelist launched the imprint Punch Drunk in 2006, a label that has been the home for artists like Pinch, Gemmy, Guido, Hyetal, Andy Mac, Bass Clef, of course Peverelist himself, and many more. He has produced, collaborated, remixed and released with talented people such as before mentioned Hyetal, Shed, Brendon Moeller, Emptyset, Shackleton, Appleblim and Kowton and released on labels like Hessle Audio, Skull Disco and Punch Drunk, naturally. In short; one of the true heavy-weighters of British dubstep- and modern dance music.

Kowton and Asusu are more new in the game, but highly talented and uprising. Kowton’s release on the Danish label TEAL last year was a true killer and so was his podcast for acclaimed website Resident Advisor.
